(USA) Susan Kramer O'Neill was born in 1947 in Fort Wayne IN. She attended Holy Cross School of Nursing in Indiana and was briefly affiliated with 'Youth for McCarthy' in 1968 before enlisting in the Army Nurse Corps. She completed Basic and Advanced Training at Fort Sam Houston TX, qualifying as an operating room nurse. Sue arrived in Vietnam in May 1969. She was assigned first to the 22nd Surgical Hospital at Phu Bai, then to the 27th Surgical Hospital at Chu Lai, and finally to the 12th Evacuation Hospital at Cu Chi. She extended her tour by one month, and left Vietnam in April 1970. Sue married Vietnam veteran Paul O'Neill and later attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she was active with the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. She became a writer and editor, publishing a book on her in-country experiences in 2001. I
