(USA) Michelle Steiner was born in New York City in 1942, and entered the Army in 1961. She completed Basic Training at Ft Dix NJ and Advanced Training at the US Army Air Defense School at Ft Bliss TX. After serving with Nike missile battalions in Hawaii and Texas, as well as teaching at the Air Defense School, Michelle attended the US Army Intelligence School at Ft Holabird MD. She was posted to the 66th Military Intelligence Group in Germany before volunteering to go to Vietnam. She arrived there in September 1967, working first with the 149th MI Group in Saigon, then at ICEX in Da Nang, and finally as an advisor in the Mo Duc subsector of Quang Ngai Province. After leaving Vietnam in August 1968 Michelle was attached to the 112th and 111th MI Groups in the US, studied Korean, and was posted to Seoul 1971-73. She later went to Ft Bragg NC. Michelle studied at the US Army Intelligence School (Ft Huachuca AZ) and at the Defense Language Institute (Presidio CA) before serving at Camp Zama, Japan, 1975-78. She later served with the 504th MI Group at Ft Hood TX before retiring from active duty in 1983. Interview conducted by Laura M. Calkins, Ph.D.
