(USA) Beth Parks was born in Glen Falls NY in 1941, and graduated from Warrensburg High Schoolin 1959. She attended Capital City School of Nursing in Washington DC and worked as an operating room nurse at major hospitals in the Washington area. She volunteered for the Army Nurse Corps in 1966, intending to serve in Vietnam. Beth completed Basic Training at FT Sam Houston TX, and then sought a posting in a combat area. In October 1966 she was assigned to the 7th Surgical Hospital at Cu Chi, and later she became part of the 12th Evac Hospital at the same location. Beth left Vietnam in October 1967 and served two more years with the 2nd General Hospital in Germany before leaving the Army. She earned a degree in biology from Wake Forest University in 1974 and after beginning her graduate studies joined the faculty of the University of Maine in 1981, earning an Ed.D. in 1991. Beth remains active as a writer and filmmaker.
