The Media and the Tet Offensive Panelists: Mr. Barry Zorthian (USIA, JUSPAO, Saigon); Mr. Don North (war correspondent, ABC and NBC News), Dr. William Hammond (Historian, US Army Center of Military History). Moderated by Mr. Richard Pyle (AP). Barry Zorthian addresses the coverage of the Tet Offensive by the international media and whether it adversely affected the war effort. Dr. Hammond addresses the effects of the media's coverage of Tet on American public opinion and asks what America would be like without a free press. Don North recounts his witnessing first hand the Viet Cong attack on the American Embassy in Saigon.
