One folder of correspondence, a safe conduct pass, a newspaper clipping, and 39 photographs detail Mendell Schellin's service in the 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division, 1969 - 1970. Correspondence dates from the war-era and is written to his father and aunt. Each letter describes the various photographs in his collection and details the terrain of his service, the types of Army equipment and artillery used during the period, and the overall life of an average infantryman. The newspaper clipping dates post-war and details Schellin's war experiences and his opinions on political aspects of the war, the North Vietnamese, and the media coverage of the war.

Approximately two linear feet of slides, audio cassette tapes, transcripts, and artifacts document Anne Scahill's service with the Vietnam Christian Service, a non-governmental organization, from April 1970 through April 1973. Many of the audio tapes contain Anne Scahill's explanations of her slide collections, the item numbers of which will be displayed at the end of the slide explanations in the Separated Materials section of this finding aid. Transcripts of some of the audio tapes are also available in the Inventory section. The audio tapes and transcriptions date from both the war and post-war periods, while the artifacts and slides all date from only the war era. The materials are in fair to good shape.

One DVD-ROM of scanned and transcribed military reports and personal photographs documents the operations of multiple divisions during the Vietnam Conflict. Reports were compiled by Don Smith and include After Action Reports, Daily Staff Journals, and various others and include the following divisions: 1st Cavalry Division, 23rd Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, 101st Airborne Division, and the 199th Light Infantry Brigade (199th LIB). One CD-ROM of 1:50,000 maps of wartime areas in Vietnam such as Saigon, Bien Hoa, and Quang Ngai.

The collection consists of approximately one linear foot of manuscript material, VHS tapes, DVDs, and slides pertaining to the military service of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Sparks, the unit history of the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Division from 1967 to 1970, and reunion materials from 1994 to 2006. The manuscript material includes Sparks' memoir about his Vietnam experience, a unit history, a unit Vietnam history, unit rosters, unit and individual orders, press releases, and news articles, unit operations logs, unit KIAs (Killed In Action), a booklet entitled Faces of the Famous Fighting Fourth, a booklet entitled 2nd Squadron 1st Cavalry, a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request on Captain Benjamin Robert Bostick, and other Vietnam Studies and reports, some of which mention D Troop (Air), which was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Infantry Brigade. The materials are dated 1967-2006 and 2015.

The collection also includes two roadside bomb pressure detonators planted by Viet Cong or North Vietnamese Army troops on Highway 1 between Phan Thiet and Song Mao in Binh Thuan Province during Fall 1969 through Winter 1970. They were discovered by troops of the 3rd Platoon, B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry, Task Force South, 1st Field Force during road clearing and security operations.
