Photographs, audiotapes, and military memoranda document Phillip LaBranche's military service in Southeast Asia from 1968 to 1970. The 88 photographs include images from the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Detachment at Dong Ha (July-December 1968), NSA Da Nang Ammo Dump (1969), the Armed Forces Language School in Saigon (February-September 1970), and the Da Nang NSA base (December 1968-February 1970). Photographs documenting LaBlanche's stay at the U.S. Navy Detachment Compound at Dong Ha Combat Base (August or September 1968) include images of the Cua Viet River, Da Nang city and airbase, and Camp Tien Sha Annex barracks. Undated audiotapes include recordings of Armed Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN) radio broadcasts, music of the 1960s, and President Richard Nixon's resignation speech. The collection also contains two photocopies of military administrative documents: a 1968 letter of commendation following the USS Clarke County salvage operation and a letter of appreciation following LaBranche's participation in a firefight in August 1968.

The scholarship was established in honor of Lubbock native Lee Roy Herron, who was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was killed in battle in the Ashau Valley in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on 22 February 1969. The periodicals and VHS tape were collected by Norman Flanagan following the dedication ceremony, for which he created a bronze likeness of Herron. The materials are dated 2001-2002.

A scrapbook of collected materials documents Robert Lafoon's service with DASPO. Photographs make up the bulk of the scrapbook, but it also contains printed documents, press passes, newspaper photographs, etc. Published photos by Lafoon are represented in the Garrison newsletter and VFW magazine (May 1966). A book, Images of a Lengthy War, contains photos by Lafoon and other DASPO photographers. For preservation of the materials, the scrapbook has been disassembled, and the items kept in original order in acid-free folders.

Documents have a date range of 1954-1995, with the bulk of the documents originating from the war era (1954-1975). Documents of note include materials on White House staff files, campaigns and elections, cabinet meeting notes, government telegrams and letters, and newspaper indexes on public opinion, South Vietnam, Cambodia for 1968 - 1975. All documents were used by Larry Berman in the research for his books.

The footage includes Nguyen Van Thieu's flight aboard a T-39A Sabreliner from Tan Son Nhut to Phu Cat on 30 May 1972 and John Paul Vann, nine days before his death on 9 June 1972. CD contains a BBC interview with Bob Laymon and a CBC Podcast Report, both in August 2010, concerning the late Air Force General John D. Lavelle and his forced retirement and demotion to Major General following accusations in 1972 that he allowed unauthorized bombing missions in North Vietnam. President Barack Obama recommended to the United States Senate that Lavelle be posthumously restored to the rank of General following revelations from declassified Nixon tapes that he was falsely accused.
