A hat, a red bag with the text 'minh hanh', and four Vietnamese childrens' shirts. Nguyen Thi Xuan Phuong made the four shirts for her sons from disassembled fragments of her shirts and damaged blankets. She kept the shirts throughout the war and the post-war period, even when she could have exchanged them for extra rations during the evacuation of Hanoi. The six museum objects were donated by her grandson, Nguyen Minh.

The slides show major cities like Hue and Saigon, military equipment like various models of helicopter, artillery pieces and weapons, aerial photographs of Vietnam, images of Camp Eagle, patrolling in the jungle, a Christmas mass service, medcap missions, montagnards, and various cities visited by McDermott during his R&R. The slides date from 1967 through 1972.

The collection also includes approximately half a linear foot of documents and photographs documenting Roy Moffett's service in Vientiane and Pakse. The photographs largely depict the training of local soldiers by Moffett and members of the U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group. The documents include event invitations; clippings; Laotian vehicle registration form; articles; certificates; notification of personnel action; correspondence; USAID travel forms; proposal to support General Phasouk in the fight against the Pathet Lao; expansion possibilities in the IV MR; and a paper outlining work being done in the IV MR of Laos. The materials are dated 1959-1965 and 1970.

Approximately six linear feet of Psychological Operations (PSYOPs) material collected by General Fred Walker, USAF during his service in Vietnam and the Pentagon. The materials cover World War II, Korea, and Russia, but the bulk of the material is from the Vietnam War. The collection begins with historical PSYOPs materials from before the Vietnam War, including unit reports, training materials, psychological operations manuals and analysis. The materials from Vietnam can be broken into several categories: handbooks and training materials, short-term analysis, unit reports, studies and long-term analysis, and pamphlets. This collection contains materials that describe how a psychological operations unit operated, explains how the pamphlets were made, and includes examples of the analysis and surveys performed by the unit to help them create their message. There are also copies of training manuals from the military psychological operations training school, and unit reports from several psychological operations units serving in Vietnam. Items of special note are the collection of propaganda pamphlets and publications produced by the United States and the enemy. Many of the publications have an attachment that includes a translation of the document, distribution numbers and locations, and an outline of the the general purpose of the document. The collection also includes transcripts of TV and radio propaganda broadcasts.

Over three linear feet of photographs, postcards, VHS tapes, audio reels, periodicals, and research materials document a deep understanding of various aspects of the POW/MIA issue. All materials were collected by Malcolm McConnell in his research for his work, 'Inside Hanoi's Secret Archives: Solving the MIA Mystery', manuscripts of which are in the collection. The 1634 photographs are former PAVN photos. These photographs, numerous declassified U.S. documents, PAVN documents, and correspondence date from the war period.

Other collections that relate to the POW/MIA issue include the U.S. Air Force POW Oral Histories Collection, the interrogation reports in the Douglas Pike Collection, the Shirley Johnson Collection, and areas of the National Vietnam Veteran's Coalition papers.

The reports cover various topics dealing with training and consultation for nation-building programs initiated by the Eisenhower Administration and carried over into the Kennedy Administration. Included topics are budgetary and fiscal systems, village life and administrative organization. The materials date 1954-1963, with most of the studies coming from the late 1950s.

Just over four linear feet of photographs, legal documents, correspondence, handwritten notes, printed materials, and military records document the My Lai incident (16 March 1968) and the subsequent investigation and trial of the participants of the incident by the Department of Defense in 1969. The materials are dated between 1956 and 1973, with the majority of the documents from 1968 to 1972, and are divided into the following categories: legal documents, correspondence, handwritten notes, printed materials, military records, and photographs.

Included in these documents are witness statements of many of the participants at My Lai, which formed the basis of evidence the U.S. Army used to indict Lieutenant William L. Calley, Jr. and others. Also included are legal documents of the court cases between the United States Government and members of Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry and Department of the Army documents, which explain the procedures of the trial process in a military court of law during the Vietnam Conflict era.

The My Lai Collection has eighteen photographs taken by United States Army photographer Ronald Haeberle, some of which were subsequently published in Life magazine. Most of the pictures are quite graphic in their depiction of violence and should only be viewed by a mature audience. The remaining photographs were taken by Defense Department officials to document the My Lai investigation and other biographical information.
