The collection consists of approximately nine linear feet of research materials accumulated by Patrick Hagopian while writing his book The Vietnam War in American Memory: Veterans, Memorials and the Politics of Healing. The files are dedicated to Vietnam War memorials with the bulk of the collection centered on fourteen memorials: the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire, New Mexico; the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Dallas; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri; the Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial; the Washington State Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Olympia; the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial; the Vietnam War Memorial in the North Shore of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial; the Rhode Island State Vietnam War Memorial; the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Thetford, Vermont; the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial; the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort; and the Vietnam Women's Memorial in Washington D.C. The collection also includes individual files on memorials from all over the United States, foreign memorials, and local visits of the Moving Wall, a smaller-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

For most of the fourteen memorials mentioned above, Hagopian traveled to the memorial and collected news clippings and publicity pieces about the memorials, photocopies of
organizational records such as meeting minutes, press releases issued by the memorials, press packets and commemorative packets given out by the memorials at their dedication ceremonies, concept and architectural drawings, and correspondence regarding the creation and maintenance of the memorials as well as appreciation letters written to the memorial staff. In the case of the Pittsburgh and Rhode Island memorials, the materials were sent to Hagopian by the memorial planners. Also included are Hagopian's hand written field notes used while conducting research at the various sites, and copies of visitor questionnaires and interviews conducted by Hagopian while at the memorials. The smaller files contain clippings, correspondence, and information that Hagopian collected about numerous other memorials throughout the country, but which were in most instances not featured in the book. A few of the files also include examples of other memorials commemorating the American Civil War and the Persian Gulf War. The materials are dated 1969-2006, predominately 1980-2006.

One linear foot of reports dealing primarily with topics on counterinsurgency and pacification document Vincent Puritano's service working with the United States State Department in Vietnam during the 1960s.

The collection also includes approximately two linear feet of documents, periodicals, maps, and books donated to the archive by Mr. Puritano's widow. The materials come from Puritano’s work with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam in the early 1960’s where he was the Program Officer for the Office of Provincial Operations. The documents include reports, correspondence, and memos written by Puritano concerning budget expenditures, province operations, cadre development, and administration of the USAID program in Vietnam. The collection includes program budgets and annual reports, operations and organization manuals, and various instructional handbooks.

Items of note in the collection are a series of transcripts of debriefs of various parties working for AID to include senior administrators, province representatives, nurses, etc. The collection also includes an original hand colored copy of a report titled The Village Campaign or Vietnam Sociology of a War by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ngoc Chau. The material is dated from 1950 through 1969 with the bulk of the material dating from 1960 through 1965.

Jones service with the 388th Tactical Wing in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Also included in the donation are records that identified Jones' remains when they were returned to the United States in 1985. Jones was shot down over North Vietnam on 5 January 1968 and was then listed MIA and later declared dead in 1976.

Book 'Journey Back From Vietnam: One Soldier's Long Road Home From War' written by Wayne Purinton. The book is about Purinton's service in Vietnam and his recovery efforts from PTSD and humanitarian efforts educating children in Vietnam.

Also contains approximately .5 linear foot of correspondence from Wayne Purinton to his family at home. The majority of the letters are addressed to his parents; however, some are to his brothers, Chuck, Ron and Eddie. Contained in the letters are a homemade Mother's day card Purinton sent, as well as a description of the start of Operation Pershing. Wayne Purinton was in Vietnam with C Company, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry from April 1967 to March, 1968.

There is also a handmade notebook and some loose pages containing Vietnamese writing, a typed page listing the operations that Presgrove participated in from November 1968 to July 1969 and a sheet from the 3rd Medical Battalion detailing the treatment given to Presgrove when he was wounded on February 23, 1969.

Less than a quarter of a linear foot of manuscript material comprising a tribute book for USAF (United States Air Force) pilot Colonel Wayne Wolfkeil put together by Joe Parnar and Robert Dumont. The volume contains the story and images of Col. Wolfkeil, his crash in Laos, and the Bright Light SAR (Search and Rescue) operations undertaken by the SOG (Special Operations Group) personnel, including the one led by Sfc. George (Wilson) Hunt of Spike Team Maine that reached the crash site two weeks later. Also included are copies of the documents Mrs. Anne Wolfkeil received from the military regarding the search for her husband and his official MIA/KIA status; his biographical entry from the P.O.W. Network website, a letter his son David wrote about his father to a reporter for the Northwest Florida Daily News in 2010, and an article on Col. Wolfkeil by Gordie Jones appearing in Lancaster (PA) Online in 2013. Also included in the collection is a published book written by Jerry Krizan and Robert Dumont entitled 'Bac Si: A Green Beret Medic's War in Vietnam. The book is the story of Sergeant Jerry Krizan, a medic assigned to Special Forces Camp A-331 in the III Corps tactical zone, 10 miles from the Cambodian border.
