A superb ensemble cast falls in for action in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. Joker (Matthew Modine), Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onofrio), Eightball (Dorion Harewood), Cowboy (Arliss Howard) and more- all are plunged into a boot-camp hell pitbulled by a leatherlung D.K. (Lee Ermey) who views the would-be devil dogs as grunts, maggots or something less. The action is savage, the story unsparing, the dialogue spiked with scathing humor. Full Metal Jacket, from its rigors of basic training to its nightmare of combat in Hue City, scores a cinematic direct hit.

Air Power in Action is the compelling drama of the United States' efforts to establish air superiority in South Vietnam - a must if the United States and its allied ground troops were to survive a hopeless position against the Viet Cong in deadly guerilla warfare. This program highlights some of the most destructive and crucial air battles and points out that the U.S.' air strength was also used to protect and help the South Vietnamese civilians.

The United States Air Force in Vietnam shows how America built up a major air operation in South Vietnam in response to the Viet Cong's guerilla tactics - which included bombarding rural areas and causing countless civilian deaths. The U.S. started to bring in planes from the States and establish complex ground support in order to effectively combat the Viet Cong and destroy their supply lines North of the 17th Parallel and their ground troops located in South Vietnam.

Introduction by Brigadier General Stanley M. Ulanoff. BG Ulanoff is a noted military historian who has received numerous honors and commendations from both the U.S. and French governments. During World War II, he served with the Counterintelligence Corps in Europe.

"The Vietnam War. On land, in The Battle of Khe Sanh, 6000 brave U.S. soldiers fight off the fiercest of the Viet Cong for 70 days and nights - even though they are impossibly outnumbered by more than three to one. Our gallant troops struggle to take control of the entire Northwestern region below the Demilitarized Zone, and finally they conquer in this most bitter and highly publicized contest of the Vietnam War.

And in the air, Screaming Eagles in Vietnam - the famous 101st battalion of the Air Force - were assigned the treacherous and often insurmountable task of freeing key locations in South Vietnam from the hard-fighting Viet Cong. This startling documentary relives the dangerous missions of this superior fighting force vying with the evasive Viet Cong, and is a tribute to all of our fighters on land and in the air.

Brigadier General Stanley M. Ulanoff is a noted military historian who has received numerous honors and commendations from both the U.S. and French governments. During World War II he served with the Counterintelligence Corps in Europe." - Copied from back of VHS cover.

John Wayne stars in and co directs ths unabashedly red-white-and-blue depiction of America's Vietnam War Effort, his most forceful film statement ever on the nature of duty and courage during times of political uncertainties. Wayne personally wrote President Lyndon Johnson to request Pentagon assistance in filming and received all the military hardware--and then some--needed to create an impressive spectacle. Particularly dramatic is a long night battle in which the Special Forces camp is overrun by the enemy, then retaken. The ever-shifting perimeter, the mind-wracking cacaphony of explosion after explosion, the difficulty in distinguishing between friend and foe, and the nearly futile attempts at command communications during the chaos of battle vividly symbolize the war as it really was.

Tour of Duty - The Complete Series
Moving Image Item Number: 3320VI4126
  • Not Available
  • NOT DIGITIZED
Enjoy the groundbreaking TV series that was the first to depict the Vietnam War through the eyes of a single platoon of young U.S. soldiers. Featuring breakout roles for Kim Delaney (TV's NYPD Blue), Kyle Chandler (TV's Friday Night Lights), and special guest stars including Carl Weathers (Rocky), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible), and many more.

Season One:
Before "Band of Brothers" there was Tour of Duty. The racially and socially diverse men of Bravo Company come together and begin their 1-year tour in Vietnam. Led by Sgt. Zeke Anderson (Terence Knox), they must ultimately depend on one another to face enemy troops and survive the hostile Southeast Asian terrain. Full of thrilling combat action, Tour of Duty also portrays the dramatic human side of war and the camaraderie of the men who gave their all for their country.

Season Two:
Brothers in arms. Brothers to the end. When Bravo Company is transferred to the Tan Son Nhut Base outside of Saigon, it's a whole new war with new dangers and new faces. Kim Delaney (TV's NYPD Blue) joins the cast as a war correspondent embedding with the platoon. The action continues but the personal battles are just beginning for the fresh-faced recruits who are becoming battle-weary fighters amidst the daily grind of war.

Season Three:
Their tour is ending but the battles are far from over. The courageous soldiers of Bravo Company face their toughest challenges yet when they become part of a Special Ops unit at Camp Barnett. The third and final season is powerful, hitting on issues unique to the Vietnam era: the devastating effects of chemical warfare, the massacre of Vietnamese civilians, the growing use of heroin, and the difficulties the soldiers face returning home to a country bitterly divided by war.
