It is divided these three distinct categories. The first section, The Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV), contains documentary materials on wartime DRV organized by topic. The section is divided into various topics include Situation, Internal Conditions, General Files, Customs, Behavior, Anniversaries, Foreign Relations, Culture, Lao Dong (Communist Worker's Party), Political Parties, Armed Forces, Military Science, Education, and Land Reform. There is more description for each topic where it appears in the finding aid. The second section, The Republic of Vietnam (RVN), presents topically arranged materials on the government of South Vietnam and South Vietnamese society during the war years. It also is further divided into topics which include: General Files, General History, Foreign Relations, Constitution, Chronology, Politics, Religion, Ethnic Minorities, Industry, Agriculture, Saigon, Internal Conditions, Culture and Customs, refugees, Economy, Education, and Mass Communications. Similar to the first section, there is more description for each topic where it appears in the finding aid. The final section, The Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), examines Vietnam after reunification in 1975. Topics include: Situation, General Files, Cities, Education, Political Parties, Military Science, and Foreign Relations With China. Again, there is more description for each topic where it appears in the finding aid. There are 25 linear feet of material in Unit Six. Within each topic, boxes and/or folders are arranged chronologically. The material bulks between 1954 and 1975 for the first two sections and 1975-1994 for the section on the SRV. In each box, the folders are broken down into two categories: Documents and General Literature. The Document folders contain material directly attributed to participants in the shaping of the history of events. The General Literature folders hold secondary sources such as newspaper clippings and magazine and journal articles. Almost all of the sources are in English, though there are a few French and Vietnamese documents. Overall, the documents are in good or excellent condition with no access restrictions.
