600th Photo Squadron In Vietnam
Moving Image Item Number: 998VI0594
Produced by the Air Force in 1968, this film covers the activities of the 600th Photo Squadron in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. The 600th was headquartered at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon. The video documents the various duties performed by squadron members, whose job it is to document anything significant that happened. You'll see them jump into combat zones, ride along on chopper missions and on low and high altitude bombing runs. There's an excellent section on armament photography - use of gun cameras for fighter and bombing mission assessment. This video includes some of the best footage you'll see on Mig kills and low altitude bombing runs, hitting bridges and railroads. It also details the day-to-day job-related activities of this squadron, such as editing film and assessing photos in the lab. After watching this video, you'll have enormous respect for the job and accomplishments of the Air Force personnel whose job it was to document the War in Vietnam.

388th Tactical Fighter Wing, Korat RTAFB
Moving Image Item Number: 998VI0600
Produced by the Air Force during the buildup in Southeast Asia, the official title of this documentary is 'There Is A Way.' This is a great documentary that puts you there and gives you a feel for this part of the Vietnam War. Operating out of Korat Air Base in Thailand, U.S. pilots flew F-105s on extremely dangerous combat missions over North Vietnam from 1966 through 1968. The video features colorful interviews with pilots who completed 100 missions, as wells as with the ground crews and flight controllers who guided the pilots on their missions. You'll see an actual combat mission over North Vietnam, during which the pilots take heavy flak before dropping their bombs. You'll witness the relief both pilots and ground crews share on the runway when the mission is over. And the celebrations when a pilot comes rolling in after 100 missions. The documentary also contains a good deal of footage of Korat Air Base, including briefings and the intense preparations of the aircraft for its next bombing mission. There are several great scenes of off-duty pilots relaxing in bars, swapping stories and enjoying each other's company.

Rescue Dawn
Moving Image Item Number: 1299VI3386
In 1965, an American pilot on a top-secret bombing mission was shot down over Laos and taken to a hellish prison camp deep in the impenetrable jungle of Vietnam. What followed was one of the most remarkable and harrowing experiences of the entire Vietnam War. Inspired by a true story. It stands as a true testament to the impossible boundaries of the human condition and the invincibility of the American spirit.

Vietnam: Chronicle of a War
Moving Image Item Number: 3370VI4336
A shattering portrait of Vietnam - the world's first "television war."
From our first tentative steps into the morass of Southeast Asia through those desperate final moments of escape from the besieged city of Da Nang, Vietnam: Chronicle of a War traces the history of the devastating conflict that was fought in a far-off land - and then re-run nightly on our television screens. Drawing upon the resources of the CBS News Archives, and narrated by Walter Cronkite, here are little known stories we could never forget - as reported by on-the-scene, award-winning news correspondents and camera crews.
- Charles Kuralt brings the war home with poignant close-ups of uncertainty, fear, and heroism on a risky assignment in an enemy-infested jungle.
- Morley Safer reports the horror as a village hamlet is leveled by American soldiers.
- Walter Cronkite goes along on a dangerous bombing mission over South Vietnam.
- Charles Collingwood pays a rare visit to the capital city of Hanoi.
- Bruce Dunning documents the final calamitous days of the fall of South Vietnam.
Over a decade of tragedy and horror is recounted in these reports and others by such correspondents as Dan Rather, Mike Wallace, and Eric Sevareid. An important and deeply moving contemporary history, Vietnam: Chronicle of a War sheds new light on that horrendous conflict and on the price we paid for peace.
