- The Roots of War traces the history of conflict in Vietnam from the 1st century AD, when Vietnam was invaded by China, to the end of WWII. Also looks at the rise of Ho Chi Minh and the nationalistic movement to unify Vietnam. The First Vietnam War, 1946 - 1954 examines the efforts of Ho Chi Minh's Communist forces at wresting indepoendence for themselves away from France. Examines the efforts of General Vo Nguyen Giap in the field against the French colonial forces.
