9th MAB (9th Marine Amphibious Brigade)

13 May 1975 - 9th MAB (assigned Task Designator CTG 79.1) : activation/reorganization for Special Operations, Cambodia - planning for contingency operations in the Gulf of Thailand or in Cambodia, preliminary guidance indicates planning for occupying the Port of Kampong Som ;
9th MAB, BLT 2/4 Marines, and HMH-462 embarked on USS HANCOCK ;
9th MAB loads available forces and sails aboard USS HANCOCK for Gulf of Thailand. Co K and LSU 3/9 aboard USS MOBILE also sailed ;
2d Bn 4th Marines and HMH-462 chopped to 9th MAB ;
Authority to plan for utilization of 31st MAU, BLT Bravo and other forces if seizure of Kampong Sam is directed.
Assigns planning responsibility for seizure of Kampong Som.
Mission planning expanded to include Koh Tang and Poulo Wai Islands.
9th MAB sails with HANCOCK for operations vicinity Koh Tang as directed.
Activation message from Ninth MAB.
Requested information on situation at Koh Tang Island to facilitate planning should assistance be required.
Received permission to utilize L-form stocks if committed for contingency operations.
Prepared CH-58's with internal fuel tanks should they be required to assist in the extraction of 2d Bn, 9th Marines forces on Koh Tang Island.
