General Note
This informal photo was taken on 15 February 1999 in the beautifully decorated Arlington, Virginia home of (retired) Admireal and Mrs. Zumwalt during a visit by Emmett and 'Muggs' Tidd. This photo is so typical of the easy, relaxed nature of Admiral and Mouza Zumwalt, as they casually entertained friends. Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., U.S. Navy was the youngest Chief of Naval Operations in the Navy's history and served from 01 July 1970 for four years. After retirement he continued to fight vigorously for improved defense budgets, strategic concepts and better health for U.S. Veterans and families. He served pro bono on many charitable and Navy-related foundations. Admiral Zumwalt died on 02 January 2000 at age 79, following complications from surgery for mesothelioma.
