[All text comes directly from 'Notes on Video by Roy Fox, 1970 and 1971' typed by Darryl Henley on 4/6/2003.]

A VHS copy of the 15 original 8mm films shot by Roy Fox in 1970 and 1971 in South Vietnam. The films were transferred to video and these two reels by Darryl Henley. Since none of the reels were dated or identified prior to this point, the correct order is only a guess. Background music was provided by Roy Fox as he narrated the video on 1 June 1 1993 in Kailua-Kona. 'Oscar Peterson and Friends' is from an album on Verve Records, 1953-1953, and serves as background music.It includes Lester Young on Tenor sax ('Tea for Two'), Lionel Hampton, Vibes ('Hello Young Lovers'), Anita O'Day on vocals ('You Turned the Tables on Me'), Stan Getz on Tenor sax ('Three Little Words'), Fred Astaire on vocals ('Fancy Free'), and Roy Eldridge on trumpet ('Foggy Day'). ;

Reel 1: Singapore airport, flight into Tan Son Nhut airport, Saigon, view of Saigon River. Women and kis next to Fox villa, # 6 Won Quon Tien street, his maid, Son. ;

Reel 2: More neighbors, women and kids, traffic on Cach Manh and Cong Ly streets, rice bags on cart. Where Shirley (2nd wife) and he lived near Shell gas station, 1971 (near 3rd Field Hospital). Food carts, pedi cabs, cyclos, taxis (Peugot) all blue and yellow, all had broken meters. ;

Reel 3: Early AM traffic, smoky, walking the dog, downtown traffic circles, Xa Loi Pagoda, taxis, cyclos, around 10 AM. ;

Reel 4: Last day in VN, trip to madam Bahn's home to say goodbye (his old girlfriend), lived near Saigon prison, trip from his villa to TSN, brief shot of 3rd Field Hospital gym with red cross on roof. CAPSTAN sign across road from hospital, building where Ole and Cass lived. ;

Reel 5: Riding with MPs from Tan Son Nhut MATS terminal to the Air Force terminal for in-country flights. Shots of USAF movie theater at TSN (John Wayne movie?), board C-130 for Cam Ranh Bay or Da Nang (Danang). Dirty windows on the plane. ;

Reel 6: Views of Siagon. Church. Dong Ba Tinh (DBT), arrival of C-130. Not sure about which reel. ;

Reel 7: Cam Ranh Bay. Roy's camp at CRB. Bill Sinclair, one of his co-workers or engineers. 1882nd Engineers (Army unit). Where Roy lived during his water well drilling contract. Shows chapel, club, mess hall, gassing up his vehicle, trip to PX. 'No charge for gas, all gas was free to Americans in the field.' North to Nha Trang, also on beach. To look at drill site. ;

Reel 8: Chopper ride to CRB along beach. Nha Trang north of CRB. ;

Reel 9: DBT to Korean R & R center by jeep thru Nha Trang. Good view pass and reservoir and dam. Views from chopper. Vegetable gardens and watering vegs, beaches. Testing the yield at drilling sites, checking for the speed of the war in 2 gallon cans. ;

Reel 11: R&R center, electrician on power pole hooking up line to well pump, pole to pump. ;

Reel 12: Drilling at R&R center. Ban Me Thuot, Da Lat. Fox's jeep. Vegetable farming, Sans Souci, Grand Hotel, cathedral, pine trees, nice scenes, traffic circle. Residential area, Catholic convent or school. ;

Reel 14: Da Lat. Airport, elevation 4931 feet. Restaurant, scenes of town, lake in town, town square, Cal Tex gas. Movie theater. End of video. Clara says to 'Blow it out your ass!!'
