General Note
The 53rd Aviation Detachment consists of the Armed and Armored (A/A) CH-47A Chinook Helicopterss attached to the 228th Aviation (Assault Support Helicopter), 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Mission is to evaluate the unit's effectiveness against enemy ground targets in support of ground operations. A crew member transports a new 2.75' rocket pod which will replace one that was damaged by enemy ground fire on the (A/A) CH-47A Chinook helicopter during a fire mission against the enemy in support of ground operations. - Photo by SSG Howard C.
