General Note: TOP LEFT: Bien Hoa, Vietnam. Training NCO's of the only Scout Dog Training Detachment in Vietnam instruct the newly arrived scout dog handlers in terrain acclimatization and familiarization of scout dog handling. Students and their dogs start off the day with a two kilometer road march to the training area at Bien Hoa Air Base. 21-25 Nov. 1968. TOP RIGHT: Members of A Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, with scout dogs of the 38th Dog Platoon, and their handlers. Staff Sergeant Michael Kontkowski (Bellwood, Illinois), with his scout dog Kelly, alerts the squad of danger ahead. 13 Sep. 1966. BOTTOM LEFT: Caesar, a scout dog of the 44th Dog Platoon, hustles over a stack of 55 gallon drums at the dog obstacle course at Chu Chi. Waged on by his trainer, SP4 Obie Mathony (Jackson, Mississippi). The dogs learn not to be daunted by any obstacles on the course. 20 Sep. 1969. BOTTOM RIGHT: Bien Hoa, Vietnam. PFC James C.
