Chu Lai, Vietnam, Roll 4 (James Schreiber's negatives 15A-36A) Row 1: 15A--Captain James Schreiber and medics on USO Beach, Chu Lai. Dr. Schreiber graduated from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1968 as did Jim Evans. Dr. Schreiber came into the Emergency Room 91st Evacuation after a helicopter crash when I was on duty. He had a few bumps and bruises but was otherwise OK. He was quite fortunate since when the helicopter landed, he was strapped into the helicopter on the down side with aviation fuel pouring over him. He seemed incredibly cool after the helicopter crash. After I checked him out in the Emergency Room, he asked if he could crash in my billet to recover. He returned to his battalion in a few hours. James Schreiber asked me to take this series of photographs on the Chu Lai beach, reenacting raising of flag at Iwo Jima. Dr. Schreiber was battalion surgeon for an Americal Division unit. 16A-21A--Captain James Schreiber and medics on beach at Chu Lai. Row 2: OA--Unidentified nurse, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. According to April 2004 letter from Cheri Hawes, the nurse is Maggie Arriola. About 10 years ago, Cheri Hawes saw her at dedication of Vietnam women's monument; at that time she was lietenant colonel stationed in Alaska. 1A--Unidentified nurse, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. 2A--Medic Boone, worked in Emergency Room, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. 3A, 4A--Dr. Gene L. Rogers in Emergecny Room, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. He was a general medical officer who worked in Emergency Room and General Medical Clinics. Row 3: 5A--Vietnamese interpreter in Emergency Room, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. 6A--Dr. Gene L. Rogers in Emergency Room 91st Evacuation Hospital. 7A--Dr. Masson or Mason in Emergency Room 91st Evacuation Hospital. 8A--NCO in Emergency Room 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. 9A--unloading patients from medevac helicopter landing pad outside Emergency Room, 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. Row 4: missing negatives, 13A--plants near 91st Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai. 14A--Chu Lai, USO Beach, located south of 91st Evacuation Hospital. Row 5: 29A-36A--Captain James Schreiber on beach Chu Lai. Row 6: No visible numbers on contact print.
