Eighty-five percent of Montagnard villages were destroyed during the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Many were forced to flee their homeland for the jungles of Cambodia. Some are establishing new lives as North Carolina citizens. The powerful Montagnard resistance movement is the focus of Living in Exile. This poignant documentary examines the pressure on the Montagnard cultures and the group's connection to the U.S. during the Vietnam War. Left behind after the U.S. withdrawal in 1975, the Montagnards struggled to survive in the jungles of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Dramatic archival footage and photos show the group's adaptive lifestyle in one of the most remote areas of the earth. Montagnard expert Dr. Gerald Hickey, missionaries and others explain the group's traditional way of life.
