- General Note
- Chief Advisor for the Vietnam Project Ralph Smuckler corresponds with Secretary of State at the Presidency Nguyen Dinh Thuan from October to December, 1959. They discuss recent developments in Vietnamese administration, faculty visits to Vietnam, arrangements for NIA students, upcoming seminars, and American personnel in Vietnam. Lloyd Musolf takes over the correspondence as Acting Chief Advisor in Smuckler's absence. Many of the letters are accompanied by Vietnamese and French translations.
