The author of the report writes from Saigon, after having received a copy of the New Republic article "A Crumbling Bastion: Flattery and Lies Won't Save Vietnam". The author retorts the content of the article, calling it "intemperate and unbalanced". The author cites examples from the article, and refutes the statistics provided within.
