- An image from Wesley Fishel's photograph collection of a company of local soldiers, standing in lines with their weaponry and awaiting instruction. An overseer talks in front of them. The label at the bottom of the photograph reads, "People's Self-Defense Forces, unpaid and made up of youths, over-draft-age men and females of all ages, are organized soon after the pacification campaign starts in a hamlet to insure the Viet Cong do not attempt to come back. This PSDF unit defends a Thua Thien village. (TCB-097 Photo Three, July 1971.)"
