- Former Michigan State University political science student Nguyen Thai sends a request to the Participant Training Program for admittance as a Ph.D. student, which begins a series of correspondence to determine his eligibility. Within two months, Assistant Dean James Hendry responds in the affirmative, and plans go forward to arrange his program.
