General Note: Ph.D. training participant Nguyen Duy Xuan corresponds with Director of the Participant Training Program Elsie Cunningham intermittently from December, 1959 to May, 1960. They correspond regularly until Xuan's departure for Vietnam. They discuss travel arrangements within and outside of the U.S., shipment of Xuan's books, per diem check payments, lodging arrangements, an AEA meeting in Washington, D.C., training field trips within New York, Xuan's proposed dissertation topic, and his date to leave the U.S. Upon Xuan's return to Vietnam, he discusses his adjustment to life in Saigon, his encounters with various U.S. officials, his employment with the National Institute of Administration, gifts for people back in East Lansing, and his progress towards completing his Ph.D.
