General Note: Photographs, press releases, fact sheets, and news clippings from Knowles time as Commanding General of Task Force Oregon from June to August 1967. Photographs include Knowles' command photograph as well as one of him receiving the Legion of Merit. Photographs of the Task Force's staff include depictions of Knowles presenting awards and promoting officers. Other photographs depict the ceremony for the completion of Highway 1 at Sa Huynh.

The Visitors section shows the Task Force being visited by dignitaries such as Ambassador Robert Koren, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, General William Westmoreland, General Earle Wheeler, Sergeant Major William Wooldridge, General Harold Johnson, Lieutenant General Robert Cushman, General Wallace Greene, General Creighton Abrams.

The Milestones section includes photos of Knowles ramming the 200,000th artillery round fired by the Task Force. There are also sections dedicated to the Task Force's composite brigades--including 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne conducting Operation Hood River and Operation Malheur, the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, and 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. Photographs from these sections show troops on combat operations and providing medical aid to Vietnamese civilians. Also of interest are photographs of Knowles with a smiling fourteen-year-old PAVN soldier named Phan Van Thin.
