General Note
Photographs from General Knowles' time in Korea as Commanding General, I Corps (ROK/US) Group from August 1972 until July 1973, and as Deputy Commander, Eighth U.S. Army from July 1973 until July 1974. Photographs are of ceremonies, meetings, and social events involving Knowles, including Change of Command, award, and promotion ceremonies. Many of the photographs show Knowles meeting with officers from the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army. Other photographs depict Knowles meeting with American officers and visiting troops during training exercises and at guard posts near the Demilitarized Zone. Also included is a photograph of Knowles with ROK President Park Chung Hee, and a photo of Knowles with General Lee Sae Ho, former commander of ROK forces in Vietnam. General Knowles is also shown in Japan, meeting with staff officers of the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF). Another photograph shows Knowles meeting with National Football League (NFL) players including Franco Harris and Jack Youngblood, as well as Ambassador Philip Habib.
