General Note
Side A This is an audio letter from Arturo to this parent in July 1968. He inquires about his family and says that they heard about Kennedy and everyone took it pretty hard but is pretty much over it now. He encourages one of his relatives to stay in school to keep from being drafted because he says that it is really bad in Vietnam. He states that he's on an airstrip far from most of the fighting so he's not in much danger other than the occasional rocket or mortar attack. He comments that the Vietnamese people do not seem to care enough about their country to fight for it. When he gets back to the United States he wants to get married after a couple months. He's staying in the military and hopes to get stationed at San Antonio. Side B Arturo inquires about his family and their farm. He's thinking of buying a car when he gets back home. He mentioned the loss of a submarine in the Atlantic (possibly the Scorpion). He tells them to contact the Red Cross if there is any emergency. He got a newspaper from Lubbock from his mother and really appreciated it. He only has about five months left in Vietnam and is hoping to leave early.
