A Special Report from Vietnam

The Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army move by night. All of their supplies are transported under cover of darkness. The problem is to find them and destroy them. This week Pacific Report takes you on a "Firefly" canal interdiction mission conducted by members of the 334th Assault Helicopter Company.


Program No. 476

From Korea - The Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea must be constantly patrolled to prevent Communist agents from infiltrating into the Republic of South Korea. We talk to a young soldier about this duty.

From Vietnam - The 266th Army Band recently gave a concert for Viet Cong who have deserted their units for the Republic of Vietnam Army. Our reporter gives us a picture of their reactions.

From Korea - A reporter on the unit newspaper, "The Indianhead," of the 2nd Infantry Division, discusses the gathering of news and publication of the weekly paper.

From Okinawa - We visit the USARPAC Dog Training School and hear from the NCOIC about the breed and the training of sentry and scout dogs for use in Vietnam.

From Korea - The coach of the 7th Infantry Division gives us a rundown on their football team and the competition among the various units of the Eighth U.S. Army.

From Vietnam - We talk to a "shotgunner," a soldier who rides in the doorway of a helicopter to provide firepower.

From Thailand - A definition and discussion of the various Civic Action projects our troops are conducting for the betterment of the Thai people.

From Okinawa - An account of a rescue mission conducted by Army helicopters for a sinking ship off Okinawa.
