Program No. 479

From Vietnam - We hear about the problems in communicating in Vietnam. Terrain and weather around the 1st Division area make it difficult for the 595th Signal Company.

From Vietnam - Miss No Bok Tuyet is working as a secretary in Saigon. She has just returned from a year in the United States and gives her impressions of her stay.

From Korea - We hear about guarding and patrolling along the Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea from a veteran soldier of the 7th Infantry Division.

From Taiwan - Outside of Taipei we visit a missile site and get a picture of the defense system from an American advisor to the Chinese Army.


Program No. 480

From Vietnam - We join a platoon of the 1st Infantry Division on a "seal and search" operation where our troops completely surround a village to prevent escape.

From Korea - An instructor of the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, 7th Infantry Division, describes their curriculum and training methods.

From Vietnam - Spec. 4 David Chetister is a medic with the 25th Infantry Division. Two things set him apart: He is a conscientious objector and he received the Distinguished Service Medal. He tells his story.

From Thailand - Sergeant John Smith tells the woes of having that name. Cashing checks and establishing credit are two of his problems.


Program No. 481

From Korea - We got to a radio relay site atop Hill 754 to visit the isolated troops. Sergeant William Wilson discusses their duties and living conditions.

From Korea - A soldier who is putting his off-duty hours to good stead is PFC Bleuer of the 7th Infantry Division. He teaches conversational English in a nearby village school to local grammar school children.

From Vietnam - Near Pleiku Pacific Report Sergeant Herb Nesmith climbs into a 105mm howitzer (self-propelled) and learns of its capabilities from the man in charge.

From Vietnam - We accompany a MEDCAP (Medical Civic Action Program) to a small village and talk to the U.S. doctors giving aid to the local populace.


Program No. 482

From Vietnam - When one of our helicopters goes down in hostile territory, we not only go out for the crew, but also, as soon as possible, extract the downed plane. This is the work of the 56th Transportation Company. We are speaking to the NCO-in-charge of the recovery section at an air base near Saigon.

From Korea - PFC Paul Rivard is a professional museum curator now serving with the 7th Infantry Division. He gives us some interesting observations of Korea based on his unusual background.

From Thailand - At Sattahip, south of Bangkok, the U.S. Army has constructed a huge deep-water port to handle the thousands of tons of supplies needed there. The operations sergeant gives some statistics on just how large a project this is.

From Korea - At headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division we are in the Civil Affairs Office for a report on the many projects set up to aid the local Korean populace - economically and socially.
