General Note
Armor Officer's Candidate School

There are three main sources of officer procurement in the United States Army: West Point, Reserve Officer's Training Corps, and Officer's Candidate School. Candidates take some of the toughest and most exacting training offered by the military forces of this country. The mental and physical pressures, a part of the candidate's every-day existence, are a true test of his ability to react under stress...to endure the demands of leadership.

Follow the candidate as he goes from reveille...through a rigorous day of training...to taps...feel that undefinable pressure which punctuates every experience in his daily life. Share his enthusiasm and anxiety as he nears the end of a twenty-three week program and a treasured gold bar.

As a commissioned officer in the United States Army, the new second lieutenant will be charged with leading men through his wisdom, diligence, patriotic convictions, and devotion to duty. The choice of the future is frequently a difficult one, however one thing is certain...as a candidate steps upon the stage of life to receive his commission...he wears an air of confidence and pride, for now he is a commissioned officer in the United States Army. He has met the challenge.

This is the story of the Armor Officer's Candidate School in living sound. All sound recordings on this record were made on location in full stereophonic mode. Over four hundred hours were required to record, edit, and process the final master copy. Grateful appreciation is extended to the U.S. Army Armor School, Fort Knox, Kentucky.
