Biographical / Historical
The USS ALLEN M. SUMNER (DD-692) served as part of the United States Navy from her commissioning in 1944 until her decommissioning in 1973. During this period she took part in World War II, atomic bomb tests, China service, the Korean War, The Suez crisis, the Cuban blockade, Polaris missile tests, the Dominican Republic crisis, Project Gemini Recovery, the Vietnam War and the Jordanian crisis. The ship also provided security and facilitated training missions from the Artic Circle to the Persian Gulf during thirteen deployments to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
