Scope and Contents
CD-Rom that contains scanned documents that document David Gould's service in Vietnam as part of VMFA-314, 3rd Battalion/26th Marine Regiment and VMFA-122 from October 1967 through October 1968. Documents include maps, cruise book and photographs.
Biographical / Historical
David W. Gould was born in Norwich, New York in 1941. Gould graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1964 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. After completing Navy flight training, he reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron-312 (VMFA-312) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Beaufort, South Carolina. During his tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, Gould flew 145 combat missions with VMFA-314 and VMFA-122 and served as the air liaison officer for the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines. He resigned from active duty in 1970 and accepted a commission in the Marine Corps Reserve. Gould retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1987 with the rank of Colonel. While in the Reserve, Gould was also a commercial pilot with Eastern and then American Airlines. He retired from American Airlines in 2001.
