Biographical / Historical

Garth Harold Holmes was born in 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. On 29 May 1960, Holmes was commissioned ROTC of the Idaho State College as a 2nd Lieutenant and joined the Army Medical Service Corps. His first assignment was as a student at Fort Sam Houston, TX, before he was transferred to the 34th Armor, 24th Infantry Division, Munich Germany as a Battalion Medical Assistant from April 1961 to October 1962. In July 1966, Holmes was sent to Southeast Asia to the 12th Evacuation Hospital as a Captain and Hospital Adjutant until July 1967. After his tour, Holmes stayed in the Army and served at Fort Harrison, in Korea, at Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Bliss, Texas, and in Saudi Arabia, until his retirement in 1994 as a Colonel. After his military service, Holmes worked for the State of Washington as a Health Car Administrator and Pharmacy Consultant.
