Biographical / Historical

Anthony LaRusso was born in Buffalo, New York in 1938. In 1962, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served two years active duty, one year of which was in Vietnam. From 1963 through 1964, LaRusso served with the 330 Transportation Company at Vung Tau as a Private First Class Specialist 4, where he repaired helicopter rotors and fixed-wing props. He also helped to set-up the airfield at Vung Tau during the Advisory Campaign. While serving in Vietnam, LaRusso received the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (later the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star), the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, and the National Defense Service Medal. In 1964, LaRusso was discharged as a Specialist 4, after which he worked at the Bethlehem Steel Co. for 17 years and later retired from Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority for the State of New York after 20 years of service. For his military service in Vietnam, LaRusso also received the New York State Department of Military and Naval Forces Medal of Merit and Conspicuous Service Star. He is currently a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Association.
