Scope and Contents

Two CD-Rom's containing digitized copies of letters written by Mr. MacDonald to his parents while he was serving in Vietnam (1966-1967); recordings of audio tapes sent to MacDonald's parents and family, and a journal containing 94 photographs that Mr. MacDonald kept during his trip to Vietnam in 1999.

Biographical / Historical

Heyward MacDonald was commissioned in the U.S. Army Artillery in 1964 following graduation from the University of Virginia. Mr. MacDonald was an Ordinance Officer at Tooele Army Deport in Utah, later helping form a new battalion at Ft. Lewis, WA. In December 1966, MacDonald arrived in Vietnam on the USNS General E.D. Patrick. His unit was then flown to Phu Loi in the III Corps area to participate in Operation Junction City and others. Mr. MacDonald departed Vietnam near the end of 1967.
