Memoir, 'Men in White Hats: A Military Policeman,' photographs, identification cards, Vietnamese money, copy of The Typhoon (February 1968), I Field Force Vietnam Organization Day all of which chronicle Dana Mansfield's service in Vietnam with the 272nd Military Police Company at Nha Trang, 1966-1969.

Biographical / Historical

Dana Mansfield enlisted in the U.S. Army in June of 1966. Following Basic Training at Fort Dix, Mansfield attended MP school at Fort Gordon. In November 1966 Mansfield departed the United States for Vietnam. Following processing at Long Binh, Mansfield was assigned to the 272nd Military Police Company at Nha Trang (Fort McDermott). In February 1967, Mansfield was assigned a 1 month TDY with the 101st Airborne Division at Phan Rang. Mansfield elected to extend his tour of duty in Vietnam for an additional six months, allowing him a thirty day leave over Christmas to return to the United States. Following the death of his grandfather, Mansfield returned to the United States on emergency leave. While home on leave, Mansfield was reassigned to the 10th MP detachment at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey for the duration of his enlistment.
