Biographical / Historical

John T. Brown, III was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1940. In 1964, he volunteered for the United States Ordnance Corps. From March 1965 to October 1966, Brown served with the United States Arctic Test Center, then with the Headquarters and Main Support Company in Phu Tai, Vietnam from November 1967 to November 1968, where he was involved in the Tet Offensive, then with the United States Weapons Command from September 1968 to September 1971, and finally with the United States Tropic Test Center from September 1971 to August 1974. Throughout his service in Southeast Asia, he was stationed at Phu Tai, South Vietnam and served as Shop Officer, Company Executive Officer, and Commanding Officer with the 5th Main Support Company, ranked as a 1st Lieutenant, then as a Captain. After serving for a total of nine and a half years, he resigned from active duty in 1974 and received five campaign stars, a Bronze Star, and the Vietnamese Honor Medal - 1st Class. He then attended graduate school and joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association, the Vietnam Veterans of America Association, and the 5th Maintenance Battalion Alumni.
