Biographical / Historical

Roger Bland was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia in 1949. In 1968, he volunteered for the United States Army. He served for a total of nine and a half years in the Army, one year of which was served in Southeast Asia. While there, he was stationed at Phu Tai and Cha Rang Valley as a Specialist 4 M88 crew member, ioton driver and permanent security force with the 526th Collection Classification and Salvage (CC&S) E Company Troop Command from May 1969 through April 1970. He then was stationed at Fort Ord, California from April 1970 thorugh September 1971, then with the 1/58th Mechanized Infantry at Fort Benning George from 1973 thorugh 1974, then the 3rd Armored Division in German from 1974-1978 and then with the Material Management Center at Fort Hood, Texas from 1978-1979. In 1979, he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant E6 and then went to work as a Bulk Mail Technician at the United States Post Office.
