In December 1945, he was released from active duty and then recalled in September 1946 and assigned to Port Angeles as an aviator. Winn was released from active duty again in June of 1947. In June 1948, Winn enlisted in the USMC as aircrewman and was discharged in January 1951. Winn immediately entered the U.S. Coast Guard, reporting to the Falgout (WDE-424). In January of 1952, Winn was assigned to the Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, NJ. Winn was next assigned to the Coast Guard Station in Bermuda in October 1952, where he remained until he was placed on inactive duty in January 1954. Between 1954 and 1957 Winn attended college. In October 1957, Winn returned to the Coast Guard and was assigned to the Coast Guard Air Station, Brooklyn, where he remained until September 1960. In October 1960, Winn reported to the Coast Guard Station at Annettee, Alaska, for a two-year tour of duty. Winn's final assignment was at the Coast Guard Station San Diego. He retired from the Coast Guard on 30 June 1966. A majority of Winn's time in the Coast Guard was devoted to flying as a pilot, both fixed and rotor-wing aircraft.- 5
