Scope and Contents
Documents and photographs pertain to the United States Naval involvement in the Vietnam War, particularly Operation Gamewarden - Task Force 116, which were collected by Arthur Price during his service in Vietnam.
Biographical / Historical
Arthur Whyte Price Jr. was born in November 1920 in Trenton, New Jersey. In November 1939, Price enlisted in the Navy and was present in Hawaii in December 1941 during the Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor.

In August 1966, Price took command of the new amphibious ship USS Duluth (LPD -6) and spent the following fifteen months as Commander River Patrol Force (CTF-116) in the Mekong Delta. In July 1970, he assumed command of the Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN and commanded the Seventh Fleet Amphibious Ready Group. In April 1971, he was promoted to Rear Admiral and became Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces Vietnam, then Commander NAVFORV, and ultimately Chief Naval Advisory Group MACV (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam). In October 1972, Price assumed command of Amphibious Group ONE/Amphibious Force, U.S. Seventh Fleet, and in 1974 became the Deputy Commander of the Amphibious Force Pacific at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California.

On 1 July 1980, Price retired from the Navy, having served a total of forty years and eight months in the United States Military. He has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (three awards), the Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star Medal (three awards), Air Medal (three awards), Purple Heart, and the Combat Action ribbon in addition to unit awards, campaign and several foreign awards.
