Audio letters to and from Specialist Gene Thomas Day document, 98 photographs and one slide document Day's service in Vietnam with Company C, 92nd Engineering Battalion, 159th Engineer Group, at Long Binh, circa 1967. Also in the collection are 153 negatives from his father's service (M.L. Day) in Korea.Biographical / Historical
Gene Thomas Day was born in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1944. In 1966, he volunteered for the U.S. Army, beginning his two years of service, one of which was spent in Southeast Asia. Day served with the 34th Engineering Battalion (Construction) at Fort Steward, Georgia and in Vietnam he served with Company C, 92nd Engineering Battalion (Construction), 159th Engineer Group, based at Long Binh. He began his service ranked as a Private E-1 and rose in rank to a Specialist 4 E-4 before his discharge in 1968.Day received the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter Medal for M-14 and M-16 rifles.
After his service, Day joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association and worked a civilian job.
