Two scanned copies of Dan Houchin's war-time diary burned to CD documenting his tour of duty in Vietnam.
Biographical / Historical
Dan Houchin was born in Lubbock, Texas on 17 March 1947. On 23 July 1969, he was drafted in the United States Army after he graduated from Texas Tech University. During his tour of Vietnam, which lasted from February 1970 to September 1970, Houchin served with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade (Redcatcher) as a combat medic, ranked as a Private First Class (PFC). Stationed mostly at Ham Tan, Xuan Loc, & Gia Rey, Houchin was involved in the pacification of Binh Tuy Province. Before being discharged in 1971 as a Specialist 4, Houchin received the Combat Medical Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. After his service, Houchin became a farmer in West Texas and has donated most of his Vietnam-related materials to the Museum of the Llano Estacado in Plainview, Texas.
