Photographs, correspondence, military administrative documents, newspaper clippings, maps, guidebooks, periodicals, service medals, a diary, postcards, and yearbooks document John Luther Adams' service in the United States Army from November 1969 to May 1972, particularly his service in Vietnam from November 1970 to November 1971 when he was assigned to the Army's Special Service Library Branch in Saigon and then Long Binh.
