Scope and Contents

Military manuals, photographs, slides, hand-written notebooks, rubber map, artillery fuse, correspondence, and other military administrative documents document Col. Jack Abrahams service with U.S. Army Special Forces in Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos. During his Vietnam War service, he was in Vietnam as an Area Specialist Officer at Nha Trang (1963-1964), and was Commanding Officer with SF Det. A-233 at Buon Mi Ga (1964-1965) and Buon Ea Yang (1965); and later with Project 404 (Laos, 1967-1969).

Biographical / Historical

Jack Abraham (12 Dec 1930 - 13 April 2023) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended public schools in Oklahoma then, as his father had, attended Western Military Academy, graduating in 1949.

He volunteered for the United States Army in 1952 beginning 26-1/2 years of military service. For 9-1/2 of those years Abraham served in Southeast Asia, including the Republic of Vietnam (rank of Captain), Laos (Major) and Thailand (LT Colonel). Abraham served with the U.S. Special Forces as an Area Specialist Officer (Nha Trang, 1963-1964) and as A Team Commanding Officer with SF Detachment A-233 at Camp Buon Mi Ga (1964-1965) and Camp Buon Ea Yang (1965) in South Vietnam, and later with Project 404 in Laos (1967-1969), and Thailand. For his Vietnam service Abraham, was awarded the Bronze Star with V device, 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Leaf, and the Air Medal with 4th Oak Leaf Cluster.

After his service in Southeast Asia Abraham served as Company Commander at Fort Gordon, Georgia, adviser to the Army for Project 404 in Laos, Headquarters Commandant at Fort Meade, Maryland, Deputy Chief of Staff for Training at the United States Army Intelligence Command and adviser to the Saudi Arabian National Guard. Abraham retired from the military in 1981 with the rank of Colonel and was active in the Special Operations Association and the Special Forces Association.
