Scope and Contents

Over one linear foot of periodicals, photographs, documents and audio tapes document Jon Bjornson's involvement in the Anti-War Movement and the Vietnam Veterans Against the War Association (VVAW), specifically his involvement in the 'We Accuse' conference at the University of Pennsylvania on 26-27 March 1971. All materials date from the war era and are in fair to good condition.

Biographical / Historical

Jon Bjornson was born in Orange, New Jersey in 1932. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for seven years with one year of service in Southeast Asia. During the Vietnam War, Bjornson served as a psychiatrist, a deputy surgeon for U.S. Army Support Command, and a flight surgeon. He was stationed in Nha Trang, Cantho, and Ton San Nhut and held the rank of Major until his discharge in 1965. After his service, Bjornson served as director of the Community Mental Health Center in Madison, Wisconsin. He was an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and an associate professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin. Bjornson belongs to the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), and Veterans for Peace (VFP).
