Ron Bernthal was born in 1945 in New York City, New York. Since the 1960's, Bernthal has been studying and collecting books pertaining to the history of Vietnam and the Vietnam War. Though he did not serve in the military, Bernthal covered post-war Vietnam and Southeast Asia as a print and radio journalist for many years before becoming a professor at the State University of New York, Sullivan County campus, where he teaches a course titled 'The Vietnam War'.- 193
