Biographical / Historical
Alan J. Billings was born 26 June 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. Billings moved to Torrance, California and attended Torrance High School where he graduated in 1962. After graduation, Billings enlisted in the Navy and began his 4 tours of service in Vietnam in 1964. He was assigned to HA(L)-3 during the Tet Offensive of 1968 and served in close support of Navy Seal teams and other specialized missions. Billings received numerous awards including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and (24) Air Medals. He retired from the Navy on 1 February 1987.
