Scope and Contents
Approximately two linear feet of slides, audio cassette tapes, transcripts, and artifacts document Anne Scahill's service with the Vietnam Christian Service (VNCS), a non-governmental organization, from April 1970 through April 1973. Many of the audio tapes contain Anne Scahill's narrative description of her slides, organized by trip or topic - the item numbers of which will be displayed at the end of the slide explanations in the Separated Materials section of this finding aid. Transcripts of some of the audio tapes are also available in the Inventory section. The audio tapes and transcriptions date from both the war and post-war periods, while the artifacts and slides all date from only the war era. The materials are in fair to good condition.Biographical / Historical
Anne Scahill was born in Kansas City, Missouri. In April 1970 she joined the Vietnam Christian Service (VNCS), a non-governmental international organization under the auspices of Church World Service, the Mennonite Central Committee, and Lutheran World Relief. The goals of the organization was to present a presence other than military through community development, social service, medical, educational and agricultural programs, which would benefit the peoples of Vietnam. She ended her service with VNCS in April 1973. More information of her duties while in Vietnam can be found by viewing the biographical note in the collection inventory below.- 3
