Scope and Contents
Slides, artifacts, correspondence, news clippings, orders, log sheets, R&R material, postcards, military payment certificates, Vietnamese dong, and maps document William Holmes Jr. service with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. The articles discus letters sent home, his career with the World Tennis Championship organization, and other miscellaneous information. The orders include Release from Active Duty and Permanent Change of Station orders dated, 1963-1965. The log is composed of three pages from Holmes' log sheet from his shift as the senior air director of the Direct Air support Center (DASC) for Marine Air Support Squadron for the Second Marine Air Wing in Da Nang on October 29-30, 1965. The R& R material includes the official guide book of the Hong Kong Hotels Association; stationary form the Hong Kong and Tokyo Hilton; Tokyo and Yokohama map and information; 2 postcards; and a fact sheet map about Hong Kong. Also included are the lyrics to song 'The Arrogance of Ignorance' written by Bill Holmes during Christmas 2002
Biographical / Historical
William B. Holmes, Jr. was a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from May to December 1965.
