Scope and Contents
Three audio tapes contain an oral history interview of Russell E. Johnson, Jr. conducted by Dwight Daniel of the National Museum of the Pacific War at Fredericksburg, Texas. Interview conducted at Johnson's home in Spicewood, Texas, on 19 August 2003. A copy of the August 2004 issue of The Perimeter: Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans newsletter is also present in the collection.
Biographical / Historical
Russell E. Johnson was born on October 5, 1941 in Austin, Texas. Johnson joined the Texas National Guard on September 21, 1959 and was a member of the 149th Military Police Company, 49th Armored Division. He later went on active duty and served in Korea with the 55th Military Police Company from January 1964 to February 1965 and in Vietnam with the 615th Military Police from January to December 1966. Johnson received his discharge from the U.S. Army on December 22, 1966 with the rank of Specialist 4.
